We turn abandoned places into opportunities

We are a group of young Neapolitans who have chosen to stay in the Rione Sanità and, from here, to build a path based on care, work and shared responsibility. From our neighbourhood, a daily commitment is taking shape that leads us to reopen places that have been closed for decades and return them to the community as vibrant spaces where art, memory and relationships intertwine.

As a child, my dreams took me far away from my family and my neighbourhood. Then, with the launch of La Sorte, those dreams took shape and, above all, allowed me to stay.

My story began in a church in the Rione Sanità, which had been reopened to offer free theatre performances to local children. It was on that stage that my passion was born, and today it has led me to work as an actor and to pass on that gift.

A unique evening experience for anyone who wants to discover one of Naples’ most authentic neighborhoods through an exclusive guided route.

The walk winds through the alleys of the Rione Sanità and opens the doors to two extraordinary places that remained closed for decades: the Blue Church and the Jago Museum. Two remarkable sites that tell stories of courage and rebirth, returned to the community thanks to the commitment of local young people.

Two stops followed by an excellent aperitivo offered in collaboration with “Sciò – Drink and Food”, a bar located at the entrance to Borgo dei Vergini.

I’m not from the Rione Sanità district, and before I really got to know it, I had a lot of preconceptions about the area. Stepping into it changed my perspective: I discovered just how much the strength of communities can bring about change, and how, by building an educational network, it’s possible to make a difference by starting right at the grassroots level.

The Rione Sanità should be thought of as a circle: everything you receive comes back to you, sooner or later. When I was nine, the Sanitansamble Youth Orchestra gave me a musical instrument and taught me how to play it in an orchestra. Today, it is my turn to teach the little ones who are embarking on this same journey.

I’ve seen people leave, seeking their fortune elsewhere… and for a while I too thought that perhaps that was the only way. Then I realised that staying doesn’t mean settling for less — it means choosing to change things from within. And every time I remind myself that you don’t have to go far to change the world: sometimes all you need to do is start at home.

The Rione Sanità has taught me to look beyond appearances, to believe in places that have something to say, even when it’s not easy to hear them. A bit like me: I struggle to make myself heard, but when I open up, I let the beauty I carry within me shine through. And that’s what our cooperative is all about: creating value where others saw only limitations.
